On Saturday, August 17 at 6 p.m. this 5k race will get underway. The race starts and finishes at the lovely Silvan Ridge Winery, which is located a short distance to the southwest of Eugene. If you have not had the pleasure of visiting, you really need to add it to your "bucket list" of places to go in Oregon. It is stunning. The wine is excellent, too.
The route is exceptionally scenic with a handful of rolling hills. You will be running through vineyards and farmland, all on a paved route (no dirt in the running shoes to worry about with this race!). One water station, at the turn-around point near mile 1.5, will be a welcome treat. Mile markers will be on the course, and the race will not be chip timed.
Once you cross the finish line at Silvan Ridge Winery, you will be treated to live music on stage, with wine, beer and food available for purchase, so you can sit back and enjoy the afterglow of finishing this race! Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as three deep in each age group. On site parking is available, and expect around 150 other fellow runners to join you.
This race benefits the Jane Higdon Foundation, an amazing organization. Jane Higdon was tragically killed on May 31, 2006, when she was struck by a truck during a bicycle training ride outside of her home in Eugene. The Foundation provides scholarships and grants to empower girls and young women to pursue healthy and active lifestyles, along with academic excellence. Additionally, the Foundation provides donations to Lane County non-profits that advocate and work for bicycling and pedestrian safety.
Ready to register? I know I am! Included in your $20 pre-registration is a logo wine glass. You may add an event t-shirt for an additional $10. Race day registration is available for an additional $15. Get out and enjoy the races at this lovely winery!
